On a fairly regular
basis we have people bringing in cherished heirlooms that
family members bought from Wendel’s
generations ago. For nearly a hundred years, this store
has honored the trust that generations of central Ohioans
have placed in our products and services.
Wendel’s
Jewelers was started in 1906 by Albert Wendel. The original
store
was
located
on
S. Broad St in Lancaster.
His son, Don Wendel, joined the business in the 1920’s
and within twenty years, Don was considered the dean of
Ohio jewelers. His son, Don Jr. came into the business
after college,
went into the Navy at the end of WWII, served his country
a few years and returned to the business in the late 40’s.
He brought the business into the American Gem Society
in 1952 and Wendel’s Jewelers has been a member
ever since. In 1972 Wendels Jewelers was moved to a
new building at
Broad and Chestnut. In 1978, Stuart Palestrant came
to work for
the family and in 1988 he purchased the business from
Don Jr. In 1992 Wendels Jewelers was moved from Broad
St to the
River Valley Plaza and in August of 2002 the store was
moved to its current location at 1021 North Memorial
